Rate Limiting with Passthrough Requests

Why do I hit rate limits when I use a passthrough request?

Updated over a year ago

Terminology:

  • Passthrough Request: These requests are sent directly to the integration's API and follow each integration's specific API formats instead of Merge's unified format.

  • Rate Limit: Typically used to control the rate of requests sent and/or received.

Why does my linked account hit rate limits more frequently when I use passthrough requests?

Some third party providers have a limit on the maximum number of simultaneous sync tasks. When Passthrough requests are being sent while a sync is occurring, it is more likely that we will be rate limited.

What should I do if I hit rate limits?

If you hit rate limits from Passthrough requests, we recommend waiting until the rate limit expires and holding off on sending any passthrough requests.
