Learn how Merge respects scopes and privacy for unmapped data

Updated over 2 weeks ago

This feature is available only on our Professional or Enterprise plans.

Overview

Merge's Common Model Scopes feature redacts data from third parties for mapped data. For example, if you disable the "Employment" model in your Dashboard, all associated fields are redacted when you make a request to Merge's API.

However, Merge may still need to request data from the third-party endpoint if the "Employment" model data is linked to the "Employee" model, which remains enabled in Merge. Consequently, the third-party logs and remote data may still display fields that you have disabled under the "Employment" model.

To enhance data minimization in this scenario, Merge has introduced a feature called "Redact Unmapped Data." This feature automatically redacts all logs and remote data for disabled fields and unmapped data (if using Field Mapping).

How to enable

You can configure this setting at both the organization level for a category and for specific linked accounts. To apply this setting for your entire organization, go to the Common Models page and toggle the option for Redact Unmapped Data.

Note: Turning on the toggle will affect future syncs and logs. It will not apply to data or logs that have already been synced.

To set this for a specific linked account, go to the Linked Account and toggle Redact Unmapped Data under Configuration.

To see what this looks like, you can view the logs for the account and verify that fields are marked "<redacted>".
